Nyngan Public School Principal Kylee Pearce is losing her locks to raise money for Nyngan CanAssist and the McGrath Foundation.
While she is a "little nervous" Ms Pearce said she is doing it to show support for her sister Julie who is currently fighting her own battle with cancer.
"My sister Julie has recently finished her chemo and as a result of her treatment her hair has gone," she said.
"Our thought was I would have my hair shaved and our hair will grow back together."
The McGrath Foundation is close to the sisters hearts as Julie is being supported by a breast cancer nurse from Dubbo.
Splitting the donation between the foundation and CanAssist was also important for the Principal to help support local people battling cancer.
"Everybody's had a friend or family member that's been diagnosed," she said.
"CanAssist supports so many Nyngan people that are going though tough times when they're diagnosed with cancer, and I also have friends in the Nyngan community who CanAssist have supported."
Local hairdresser Karlee Burt will be cutting Ms Pearce's hair at the Public School Fete at 7.30pm on April 5.
Ms Pearce is hoping the Nyngan community will rally behind her cause.
