BOWLS
A good roll up of bowlers for Good Friday bowls and a most enjoyable day had by all with lunch of fish and chips at the halfway mark. The winners and runners-up were paid up to the 10th place. First place Mal McBrien and Shelby Powell, 2nd Tim and Connor Ryan, 3rd Ron Sullivan and Colin Williamson, 4th Dianne Wynne and Teressa Rose, 5th Rodney and Rose Ryan, 6th Baden Powell and Mark Cashion, 7th Ian Cameron and Bob Sainsbury, 8th Wayne and Mary Arandale, 9th Alby Homer and Ian Midgley and 10th Jenny Parry and Catherine Fuller.

Championship games; Major singles rounds: Joy Debank defeated Lyn Hawley in a very exciting game with Joy coming home to win after being behind for the major part of the game 25/22. Mick Walsh defeated Paul Walsh. Maxine Christoff defeated Rose Ryan. Ian Midgley defeated Rodney Ryan in what was another close game 31/30.
Major pairs rounds: Maxine Christoff and Jody Smith defeated Deb Vane and Elizabeth Wynne by one shot 13/12. Rick Jermyn and Barry Beetson defeated Greg Wright and Eric Nipperess . Bob Sainsbury and Mal McBrien defeated Ron Sullivan and Michael McGlynn.
Please take note Twilight bowls will commence Wednesday, May 1, starting at 6.00pm. The game will be three bowl triples and play 12 ends and the rules will be on the board. Nominations to be in by April 28 and there is a sheet on the board for nominations. So get your teams together for a great night of bowls.
Ladies and gentlemen, there will be a meeting at 9.30am Sunday April 28 to discuss change of bowls uniform. Please attend. Ladies please note dates are on the board for Singles, Pairs and Triples championship games so get yourself around to the club and check when you have to play by. Mixed bowls for mother's day will on Sunday May 12. More information later. GOLF
Les Dorrington, Nate Matheson and Tim Lewis has a day to remember in Sunday's ambrose, after dropping a shot on the second. They peeled off eight birdies for the rest of the game and finished the game with the stunning figures of 61 off the stick for a nett 55.5.
Another formidable team of Dang Holmes, Dave Martin and Tony Lewis came close to the winners with 56.33 nett. They managed six birdies and a bogey on the 10th for a gross score of 63. Ken Burt, Chicky Parry and Anthony R.C were another team with eight birdies but dropped shots on the second and tenth for 57.17 nett. Tim, Janine and Pat with 58.17 nett just made the top four.
Pin winners were Pat, Mimo, Tim Lewis and Croc Read. A very steady round of +3 by Don Lister got him home just ahead of Dave Buggy +2 and visitor Neil Buggy (Maitland) +1.
Dave blew a good lead having three washouts on the back nine. Neil excelled on the back with +4 and Don just kept knocking in 10 to 12-foot putts. No pin winners. The ladies had a nine hole dash on Wednesday with Mandy Martin 17pts just edging out Dolly Ryan 16pts. She couldn't manage a point along the river then got the N.T.P as compensation. Janine also managed 16pts. After all the recent good scores the pecking order for the men is David Rose off 3, Chicky is 5, John Wynne 6, Croc Read 7 and Mr R.C 8. The ladies are led by Mandy 10, Jodi Douglas 15, Lyn Hawley 15, Deb Matheson 16 and Robyn Harris 19.
RACING
Robb's veteran makes a Splashe on way to another cup victory
The collection of trophies won by Rusty Motorbike further increased on Sunday when the veteran nine-year-old took out the Rice's Cordials Splashe Harry Hart Memorial Picnic Cup (1600m) at Bourke.
The cup win was part of a massively successful day at the Back 'O Bourke Picnic Club for Nyngan trainer Rodney Robb. Owned by Robb's wife Wendy, Rusty Motorbike has won 12 races overall with eight of those wins being cup victories. The previous wins had come at Enngonia, Louth (twice), Mallawa, Come-By-Chance, Cobar, and Tomingley.
Wollartant, an even older veteran trained by Justin Stanley, and Russell Hogan's Cooee March shared the lead at Bourke ahead of Rusty Motorbike, Tonna Power and Suman The Yak.
Ridden by the south coast-based Maddison Wright, Rusty Motorbike ($2.70) took control in the straight to score by over two lengths from Cooee March (Ricky Blewitt, $2.40) and Wollartant (John Wilson, $2.20 favourite).
There was also sustained support in the betting ring for the Robb-trained Billy Buttons before the running of the Darling Irrigation and Frank's Outback Security Maiden Plate (1300m). Billy Buttons (Maddison Wright) was backed from $2.20 to $1.80 favouritism and led all the way when beating Delago Express (Ricky Blewitt, $2.20) and Billo Road (Ridge Wilson, $6).
Robb and Wright also combined to win the Bourke Steel and Hire-Outback Refrigeration Class B Handicap (800m) with Late Return ($1.70 fav.) and Bourke Bowling Club Class 3 Handicap (1000m) with Another Plan ($1.60 fav.) to give them a four-win haul at the meeting.
The day was also special for Narromine trainer Troy McCarney who achieved his career first winner, Sophie's Choice in the Landmark Bourke and Dad N Dave's Turf Maiden Plate (800m). Wide on the hometurn, Sophie's Choice (Ridge Wilson, $4) arrived in time for a close win over Haven't We All (Alan Barton, $1.80 fav.) and Steph's Wish (Maddison Wright, $2).
