RUGBY LEAGUE
Nyngan Tigers
The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season going down 30-24 to the Wellington Cowboys in Wello on Sunday.
We started strongly and held an 18-6 lead at one stage during the first half. A bit of a defensive lapse nearing halftime proved costly allowing Wello to score a converted try on the stroke of halftime to reduce our lead to six.
We were forced to defend for large amounts of the match and would of only had about 30 percent of possession throughout the game.
The weight of possession to Wello started to tell in the second half and they were able to put three unanswered tries on us to go out to a match winning lead with ten to go.
The Tigers hit back late but time ran out for us.
Although disappointed, Justin would have been pleased with the effort of his side. They dug deep and showed plenty of character when very little went their way.
Justin was our best again, he got through a mile of work and looked dangerous with the ball. Jacob was another standout, he scored a smart try and would have made 50 tackles. Troy Evans was also impressive as was Hammond.
The Reggies was much the same as first grade, we didn't have a lot go our way. We would held a 24-20 lead with three minutes to go, but after a string of penalties Wello were able to cross for the match winning try on the bell.
As with first grade, you couldn't fault the effort from the boys. Troy Evans was a standout, he was playing out of position but did a great job for Tooley.
Gus Currans and Coxy were also standouts, as was hooker Nate Matheson who was dangerous with the footy and rock solid in defence.
He's only blemish was a ten minute stint in the bin for back chatting, if you take that out he had a cracker of a game.
The u/18s came up against a fairly hot Wello outfit and can hold their heads up. Although we were well beaten, our boys kept trying and had to battle on after losing Bill Quarmby and Xander Wood through injury early on.
Sonny Knight and Cale Dunn were the pick for mine, just in front of Col Piper and Liam Wherrit who never stopped trying. Big Tommy Fuller was another who stood out.
The girls had a great game of Tag, which could have gone either way. Wello only sealed the game in the dying stages.
Aimey Thurston was dangerous with the book and looks like she will be a trump for the Togers in the weeks ahead. The younger girls Millie Smith and Bailey Griffith were also very good, as was Britt Robb who brings a bit of aggression to the team.
This weekend we are on the road again when we take on Narromine at Cale Oval. Justin and Tooley will be hell bent on returning their sides to the winner's circle.
Big thank you to all our great supporters once again for making the trip to Wello, super effort.
The Tigers are again running doubles for the up and coming state of origin series. Queensland will be home side for game's one and two, and NSW will be the home team for game three. Winning double will be pain on first point scorer for each team. If no points scored, double will be paid on no 9.
Thank you to everyone who has purchased a double for supporting the Tigers.
Don't forget the Tigers reunion dinner Saturday night June 8 at our major sponsor the Nyngan RSL starting at 6.30pm. Tickets are $35 a head and can be purchased at the RSL or by contacting Tara McDermott.

Nyngan Tigers
Justin Carney again paid tribute to the Nyngan faithful after the Tigers kept their unbeaten start to the Group 11 season alive on Sunday.
Despite trailing 12-0 inside 10 minutes at Parkes, the Tigers fought their way back and a late Jai Merritt field goal sealed the 31-24 victory.
The Tigers now sit at the top of the ladder alongside Dubbo CYMS and former NRL and Super League player Carney reiterated how happy he is around a buzzing Nyngan club.
"I remember when I was 16 and 17 playing there, we were getting flogged but there was still that buzz about," he said on Sunday.
"I've been all over the world but no-one is as passionate as them and does that.
"You can't get that in the big cities and that's what means the most to us. It's a really good place to play."
