Inconsistency is plaguing a number of teams, with three of the top five losing on the weekend, while Macquarie and Narromine both won to have just one point now between third and seventh.

The latest results have caused a shake-up to the rankings. Here's this week's list:

Three weeks at the top now for the Fishies.

There aren't any road-trips more difficult than the one to Nyngan's Larkin Oval but a commanding second half showing saw CYMS return home with the points on Sunday.

The result against Westside next round is seemingly a foregone conclusion, meaning CYMS is all set to go through the entire first round unbeaten.

Not bad for a side which did have a couple of question marks around it heading into the new season.

And, like I've said every week, they haven't played at their best yet.

If CYMS getting the points at Nyngan on Sunday was impressive, then the same can be said for the Cowboys getting the job done at Forbes.

The Cowboys again showed their ability to guts it out when keeping Forbes scoreless in the first half and then they piled on the points in the second stanza.

This team continues to go from strength to strength and is looking more like a premiership contender with each passing week.

Moving up too far after only a second win of the season? Maybe.

Are they a better team all-round than Nyngan, Forbes, or Parkes? Possibly not. But right now they're getting the job done while those sides are seriously struggling for consistency.

A win over Nyngan was followed up by a strong victory over Westside on Sunday, one where the Jets piled on 86 points.

The Jets could slip back down if they lose to Wellington next round, but right now they're playing well and benefiting from others struggling.

Moving up one spot after a third successive loss might seem strange, but they're also benefiting from other teams not performing well.

The Tigers were without Justin Carney in Sunday's loss to CYMS and that was a massive loss, while the absence of Sam Simmons is also being felt.

They stuck with the Fishies during the first half on Sunday but then faded. Despite losing a few they're still showing positive signs at times.

Despite the excuses you can make, you can't help but feel a win this weekend against Macquarie is really needed for the side's momentum and confidence.

Losing to a Macquarie side which had been battling previously is not a great sign, but the Spacemen were without both Sam Dwyer and Brandon Tago on the weekend.

Coach Brent Wood won't be using it as an excuse, but there's no doubt it hurts. What Wood would be more concerned about is his side's inability to put together an 80 minute performance at the moment.

The defensive effort is also lacking slightly, with at least 30 points conceded in three of the past four games.

It's nowhere near time for panic within the Spacies camp but the annual long weekend meeting with Forbes is shaping as a hugely important game for both sides.

The Magpies just can't seem to get it right at the moment.

After a bruising first half against Wellington on Sunday they were second best for the rest of the game, with only same late tries making things seem close.

The Magpies have three wins to their name, and they've come over the three lowest teams on the ladder.

Forbes is always a team which gets better as the season goes on and they have struggled with injuries and players unavailable, but right now things are a little concerning. Especially as they've only won one of four games at home so far and the race for the top five is really starting to heat up.

The southern derby battle against Parkes often brings the best out of them though, so watch this space.

Raiders fans may well ask why their side is so low here and Narromine, which has also won twice, is sitting third.

Momentum is one thing, the Jets have won two in a row, while the Raiders got back to winning ways on Sunday when downing Parkes. The Raiders have also suffered some heavier losses.

But no matter where they might sit, the weekend's win over Parkes feels like a massive one for Macquarie. A big scalp was definitely needed after what had been a disappointing start to the season.

Captain-coach Wes Middleton has high hopes for this team and if they were to score a win away at Nyngan on the long weekend then things could really start rolling for the Raiders.

Did the Rabbitohs read this column last week? I asked for less points conceded and some tries on the board and that's exactly what we got at Narromine on Sunday.

The Rabbitohs showed real toughness early on and stuck it to the Jets at Cale Oval, but dropped off the more the game went.

They're still nowhere near the required level but, as has been said numerous times, it's about small steps. And Sunday was definitely one in the right direction.
