Over the weekend the Nyngan State Emergency Service (SES) unit have undergone a series of storm skills to help better protect the community.

Nyngan NSW SES unit commander Trish Orchard said she was "impressed" with the two-day training session, which is important for the community now that storm season is approaching.
"The training was in storm damage and water operations," she said.

"It enables the new members in the Nyngan unit to go out on storm jobs, so we've got six brand new members and they didn't have any prior training.
"They've done personal safety but this is the first one that will help them protect the community."
The unit were able to use the Nyngan Fire and Rescue NSW training prop, which according to Ms Orchard is a great asset for Nyngan's emergency service precinct.
"[The training prop] is a shed resource amongst the emergency services, so for them to have that facility that's an amazing thing for Nyngan," she said.
"We're also going to be using it for training height safety in the next coming weeks as well. So that made the training more realistic."
The unit commander said she was proud of how much the SES unit in Nyngan has grown in the past 12 months.
"We've now got an operational team, but we're able to give back to the community now," Ms Orchard said.
"I think we've arrived now in Nyngan as an emergency service provider."
