AS bushfires rage in some parts of the state, with the closest large blaze in Wollemi National Park, it's made for some pretty spectacular scenery.

Winds have pushed smoke as far away as Dubbo with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) issuing a warning on Wednesday that it was not due to any fires burning in the Orana region.

While the RFS said the 164,000 hectare Gospers Mountain bushfire looked certain to be the largest on record for the Lithgow region, and it was much bigger than the State Mine Fire of 2013.

Meanwhile, total fire bans are in place for large parts of the region due to a severe fire danger risk.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a fire weather warning on Thursday morning for this region.

It said hot and dry westerly winds would generate elevated fire dangers for parts of the region.
