It is outshining Dubbo and Wellington where residents have collectively curbed their use of water but are still turning on the tap too much.

Level four water restrictions have a per person per day usage target of 280 litres (L).

Geurie got off to a bad start using 293L per person per day in the week ending November 10.

But the village appears to have heard and acted on the council's call to "Be Wise With Our Water".

In the week ending November 17 Geurie residents used 244L, followed by 271L in the week ending November 24 and 226L in the week ending December 1.

In contrast, Dubbo and Wellington got off to a good start to the level four restrictions which were rejigged by council after community and business feedback.

In the first week of level four restrictions Dubbo residents used 220L per person per day and Wellington residents 251L.

But across the past three weeks the two communities have been unable to stay under the 280L target.

Dubbo residents used 284L in the week ending November 17, followed by 326L in the week ending November 24 and 310L in the week ending December 1.

Corresponding data for Wellington is 294L, 325L and 309L.

The council's chief executive officer Michael McMahon is looking on the bright side.

"Council is understanding that the community is still learning to adapt to living with water restrictions, considering we were at the average baseline of using 440L per person per day out of restrictions, and we are now reducing that consumption by 130L and more in Geurie's case is commendable," he said.

"We are still encouraging residents to embrace the 280L target per person per day by visiting the Council online drought hub and making use of the water saving tips."
