GOLF
Round 8 of twilight was played just prior to Christmas. 'Off in the Woods' survived a four-way countback to win that weeks award. Jako (the Mayor's right-hand man) starred with a birdie and heaps of three-pointers. At the halfway mark 'Murphy's Hardware' and 'Kevin Martin Plumbing' are the pacesetters with 14 pts apiece. Another golfer in peak form is Tim Lewis who has won four out of six games in the Sunday 9 hole ambrose some of his partners have been Tony Lewis, Dorro, Nate Matheson.
Ditching Tim and grabbing Croc Read for last Sunday's game the pair of them had a par round and a 31.87 nett, a couple of chip-ins gave them a wide margin over Bill Hare and Chicky Parry 32.75 nett. Very few people have managed to win an NTP now there is a healthy jacket waiting to be won. In Saturday's golf, a couple has been called off due to extreme heat.
Both Greg and Nate Matheson have been winners over the past few games, last Saturday's winner was Chicky Parry playing off a 5 handicap.
He returned a 66 nett plus an eagle on the 7th. Jodi Douglas 68 nett and JanineTulenew 69 nett had some misfortune around the greens and either one could have got around the winner, once again no pin winners. Twilight golf swings back into gear next week round 9.
Subs for 2020 are due by January 31, the same rate as last year. Goodbye and good luck to a couple of chalkie members Tristan Dal Forno and Brad Toole off to greener pastures we hope.
SWIMMING
MACQUARIE YABBIES SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The second Macquarie Yabbies swimming carnival hosted on Sunday, January 12, was a huge success. 171 swimmers entered from 23 participating clubs across NSW and even QLD; with 1231 race entries total. Records tumbled on the day as swimmers aged 5 - 15 from Dubbo, Mudgee, Orange, Manildra, Forbes, Parkes, Trangie, Coolah, Warren, Dunedoo, Tottenham, Nyngan, Coonamble, Bourke, Wellington and Coonabarabran battled it out in the pool.
Club President, Kerry Roberts was extremely happy with the turnout. "The skins events were hotly contested with $1000 in prize money, as were the dash for cash events," she said.
"Congratulations to all swimmers who competed so enthusiastically".
Skins winners on the day were:
12yrs & under - Angus Ciesolka (St Hilda's Aquatics QLD) & Maddie Marks (Coonamble Swimming Club).
14yrs & under - Nate Atkinson (Mudgee Indoor Swim Club) & Bianca Fuller (Dubbo City Swimtech).
15 & over - Lachlan McCabe (Nu Swim Inc) & Sammi Atkinson (Mudgee Indoor Swim Club).
Rotary was onsite early with bacon and egg rolls followed by a barbecue lunch and their presence was hugely appreciated by swimmers and supporters alike.
Thanks also to Dubbo City Swimtech for all their technical assistance on the day.
A huge thank you to all the sponsors who supported races on the day, as well as the Yabbies member and committee team who were on-site from 6.30am until 5.30pm to put up and pack down the carnival.
Thanks also to all the volunteer timekeepers from across Western Area clubs for their assistance. As a follow on to the club carnival the Macquarie Yabbies are one of only three clubs in NSW to be hosting the NSW Country Regional Carnival on the Australia Day Weekend over two full days.
This event will see swimmers from across the state converging on Narromine for the weekend. All swimmers participating in the meet will have had to qualify prior to the meet so the pool is sure to light up again with high-quality swimming.
NYNGAN POOL
Due to the ongoing hot weather, Bogan Shire Council will provide free entry for all to the Nyngan Swimming Pool for the remainder of the school holidays. This initiative will be funded via the NSW Government's Drought Stimulus Package which aims to provide enhanced social and recreational youth activities in small drought-affected communities. The free entry will start immediately and continue until Wednesday February 5.
