The 40th annual Jack Edgell produced a win for the ages, with seasoned veteran Bill Dewhurst smashing the opposition with a quality shooting performance.
Twenty targets into the 30 target event the field was even with Ron Sullivan and Peter Rees only one target behind the wiley young Dewhurst.
Favourite for the championship was president Buttons Powell, a multiple winner of the time honoured event.
Shooting off the maximum handicap, from some where back in the grandstand took its toll and he faded to back of the squad.
The young whipper snappers, Shinytop Rees, Walkytalky Sullivan and John 'Red Dot' Miller all faltered and fell away in last 10 targets, unable to match the endurance, concentration and will to win of Dewhurst at the peak of his career.
Final scores, Hartley Dewhurst 28 and the also rans 25 or less.
The other final was the Nyngan Rural Agencies sponsored Mixed Targets. Thirty targets - 10 double barrel, 10 single barrel and finishing with 10 target pointscore.
Popular Warren gun club shooter and stalwart, Sid Kinsey master the overcast and breezy conditions to finish on top with a score of 41.
Shooting in the next lane to Sid was president Powell who uncharacteristically dropped the last clay and handed the opportunity to Sid for victory. Kinsey did not falter. Congratulations to all finalists.
