Popular events include steer wrestling, steer undecorating, team roping, junior, juvenile and ladies barrel racing and of course the spectacular novice and open bull and bronc rides.
Always a crowd favourite, the bull rides will feature bulls like Peter Kennedy’s Nakadoo, bucking stocks Russian Roulette - an ABCRA national finals selected bull, ranked in the top 15 in Australia, and Party Boys a mean-looking black bull that has only ever been ridden once.
Nakadoo’s Jackass, a young bull showing plenty of spunk and attitude, is certain to give the cowboy who draws him a run for his money and the spectators plenty to cheer about when he struts his stuff after he is bucked out.
The rodeo clowns are the unsung heroes who will entertain the spectators with bravado and quick moves to ensure the safety of the bull riders, while the pick-up men back up the bronc riders.
This year the Crackup Sisters will be performing their comedy routines to ensure some belly laughs as well.
Audiences everywhere are enthralled by The Crackup Sisters’ clean country humour, slapstick pranks, mastery of whip cracking and aerial prowess. You won’t believe their antics but you’ll love watching how they get away with it.
Local band Burnt Earth will be entertaining the crowd with live music and the mechanical bull will be at the grounds for all ages to enjoy.
Members of the Cobar Rodeo Committee Inc and local residents have been working to transform the Rodeo Arena and surrounds during the past months. Rails have been painted and grounds and outbuildings tidied and revamped.
The gates for the rodeo will be open from 8.30am and the program starts at 10am.
A bar will be operating and the Cobar Pony Club will keep the hunger pangs at bay with their canteen. No alcohol is to be brought into the rodeo grounds and a security guard will be on the gate to confirm the over 18s by licence identification and wristbands.
People who are keen to party on after the rodeo will not be disappointed as several local venues will be providing entertainment.
Those die hard rodeo fans can camp overnight and enjoy the New Gold Jackpot Rodeo on the Sunday, the Jackpot rodeo is a new addition to the program and makes the trip more worthwhile for competitors who travel from all over Australia.
The Cobar Rodeo Committee Inc monster raffle will be also drawn at the event.
Cameron said the committee would like to thank our sponsors for their generous support and look forward to a great weekend.
