This classic tale of teen rebellion and repression features a delightful combination of dance choreography and realistic, touching performances.

When teenager Ren McCormack (played by Nelson Salter) and his Mum Ethel (played by Emily Bandi) move from big city Chicago to a small town in the west called Bomont, he’s in for a real case of culture shock.

Though he tries hard to fit in, the streetwise Ren can’t quite believe he’s living in a place where rock music and dancing are illegal.

There is one small pleasure, however, Ariel (played by Chloe Dunn), a troubled but lovely blonde with a jealous boyfriend (played by Caleb Dutschke). Ariel’s father is Bible-thumping Reverend Shaw Moore (played by Malachi Dutschke), who is responsible for keeping the town dance-free.

Ren secretly gains support from Shaw’s wife, Vi Moore (played by Cailtin Willcockson), who warms the heart of audiences with her selfless fairness and open-mindedness.

Ren and his classmates want to do away with this ordinance, but only Ren has the courage to initiate a battle to abolish the outmoded ban and revitalise the spirit of the repressed townspeople.

Local Bomont teen, Willard Hewitt (played by Joel Coyle) lights up the stage with his ever-funny lines and antics, as he tries to be noticed by heart-throb, Rusty (played by Tayla Martin).

Based on the hit 80s movie (which launched the careers of Kevin Bacon, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jon Lithgow), Footloose has become a stage musical phenomenon.

From Broadway to the West End and touring across the UK, and now The Palais Theatre in Nyngan there is just no stopping the music.
