During Easter 2015 the Nyngan population could increase by about 400 people with just one event - the Nyngan RSL Easter Challenge.
With possibly eight junior rugby league squads converging on Nyngan the 2015 tournament is taking shape in all major areas.
The event is more than your stock-standard football trip. For most of the 15/16 year-old-boys it will be their first real experience of the bush.
The aim of the Easter Challenge is to pit their skills - both on and off the field - against their country cousins.
Chasing pigs and milking cows is as new to them as the beach is to some of the country kids. Many new friendships are formed and the experience goes down as one of the most memorable of their lives.
The Nyngan RSL Club and Straits Tritton Mines have taken on the roles of sponsors.
From now on the Easter Challenge will be known as the Nyngan RSL Easter Challenge and the RSL will also sponsor the referees. Straits Tritton Mines will again be the sponsor of the competition games.
As usual the Bogan Shire Council has offered its full support and this will ensure the smooth running of the 2015 Challenge.
The committee appreciates the work put in by the council. Over the past years many favourable comments have been heard regarding the state of the grounds and town’s facilities.
Donations of cakes and slices for the Easter weekend will gratefully be accepted. The committee also thanks past and future volunteers who give up part or all of their Easter break to help out - without you the event would be a non-event and this year will be no different.
If you have a bit of spare time over the weekend and would like to help out please let the committee know: Col Wright 0428 419 426 or Glen Neill 0418 286 038.
Next meeting will be Wednesday March 11 at 7pm at the Nyngan RSL Club. Hope to see you all there.
