I should have had this report written earlier but I thought I’d delay it until after the State Conference.
Firstly I want to extend sincere sympathy to Nyngan Mayor, Ray Donald, and his wife, Dianne, on the death of their son, Dave. So very sad.
On a brighter note all things seem to be going well within the Group. Warren CWA branch had some good news when a grant it had applied for was approved. This has enabled Warren to have repairs and maintenance done to the outside of its rooms. All the members were very jubilant about it, with the work now finished.
Hermidale branch has done some catering for the solar farm, which is about 12 kilometres out of Nyngan on the Cobar road. Obviously, the people concerned have been well satisfied because they asked us to do another small catering job on May 17. Hermidale branch is also running a raffle for its Biggest Coffee Morning on May 27. Nyngan branch has also held a very successful street stall.
We had 13 members attend the State Conference in Tamworth on May 4-7. A very good venue at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre, where all exhibitions were under the one roof.
Eighteen motions out of the 21 presented were passed. Hermidale’s motion asking that the CWA of NSW support the legislation of the growing, manufacture and distribution of marijuana for medicinal purposes only, was one of the motions that was passed.
The specific Annual Health Research project for 2015-16 is Lyme Disease. Motor Neurone Disease and Macular Degeneration have also been included as annual projects for 2015-16.
Members attending the conference were treated to a display of horse and riders at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre on the Wednesday during the lunch hour. Very entertaining.
There were three tours around the Tamworth district arranged for the Thursday afternoon and, of course, the conference finished off with the gala dinner that night. This was very enjoyable with plenty of entertainment in the form of music and dancing.
Till next time.
