The 2015 Far West Academy of Sport (FWAS) Football (soccer) squad will return to the training field in Warren this coming weekend after recently participating in the Forbes Junior Soccer Gala Day this past weekend.
The Far West Squad: Ben Anderson (Cobar), Chad Buckman (Cobar), Ben Griffiths (Cobar), Samuel Piper (Cobar), Ethan Kiley (Bourke), Tyrone Sutton (Bourke), Ellita Hunt (Nyngan), Timothy Walsh (Nyngan), Shianne Klante (Girilambone), James Ferguson (Gilgandra), Matthew Ferguson (Gulargambone), Jared Manson (Coonamble) and Damien Manson (Coonamble)) played four matches throughout the Gala Day against talented sides from Parkes, Cowra, Young and Orange.
With the FWAS Squad playing together for the first time in this year’s program it took some time gelling as a team and as a result they narrowly went down to a strong Parkes side in their first match before drawing nil all with Cowra in their second match of the day.
As the day went on though the Far West Side started to gel together and find their rhythm as a side, playing some expansive and free-flowing soccer which led to them coming away with two impressive victories against Young 3-2 and Orange 7-nil.
The FWAS Football coaching staff along with Head Coach Brian Plummer, were extremely happy with the squad and their performance throughout the Forbes Junior Soccer Gala Day.
“For their first time playing together as a team in a match environment, I believe the team performed really well, and it is good to see them starting to gel and work together as a team already. We do have some areas that we need to improve on as we move forward in the program but I, along with the coaching group, am really looking forward to building off of the effort and performance that was displayed throughout the day at Forbes and building off of that as we get into the more specific development of technical and tactical strategies over the next month of training sessions leading into the next lot of matches.’’
The squad will continue to train throughout the months of July and August with numerous training sessions scheduled leading into an exhibition game against a local Dubbo side in Dubbo in early September, which will then be followed by the annual week-long development tour to Sydney during the September school holidays to close out this year’s program.
