Five mums have been attending Nyngan’s First Touch Program for the past five weeks to learn about their baby’s bodies and cues.
It’s a five-week program run by a certified massage instructor.
Organiser and teacher Meagan Giddy said it’s been a great program for experienced and first-time mums.
“Infant massage teaches the importance of using skin-to-skin contact, eye contact and voice contact to help strengthen attachment and facilitate a strong bond between infant and parent,” she said.
“Massage improves baby’s sleeping patterns, relieves tummy pains, assists sensory awareness and facilitates communication between baby and parent.”
Sabrina Lowe, Penny Smith and Kelley Bodycott are taking part of the First Touch Program.
First-time mother Penny said it’s good to get together with other mothers and highly recommended the group.
The program is delivered in small groups providing an opportunity for mother and baby to socialise as well as getting one-on-one attention from the trainer.
Instructor Meagan Giddy runs the free program and belongs to the International Association of Infant Massage.
“Infant massage programs can also be run individually and can help mothers suffering from post-natal depression by learning the skills for connecting with their baby, helping mothers develop a bond and attachments,” she said.
Meagan asks for any mother who is interested in joining baby massage to contact her on 0439 395 820.
