The best of the week’s winners in round one of the Twilight Golf Competition was president Pete and his gang “Murphy’s Mongrels”.
They had the good fortune to play on a dry day, the majority play their games on Thursday and that’s when the rains came and washed them all out. Jeff Leek was Saturday’s winner with 39 points. He was a fraction behind the pacemakers at the halfway mark. All that physical stuff he does has improved his stamina no end and he zoomed away and won by two points over Tex Tomek who drowned his second shot on the 18th. Something he is rarely guilty of.
Pat Walsh had a reasonable game with 36 points and pipped the early leader Steve Lennox on a count back for third place.
Pin winners were Jeff and Pat.
Sunday was the first of the AM Sunday Ambrose’s with 26 starters setting a high standard.
With 26.5nett Mark Keighran and Adi Spicer’s birdies on the first and third got them off to a flying start, a couple of bogeys to finish with left them even with the card.
Warren and Mick Murphy with 31.12 nett were next best. They were a couple over par as was Tony Lewis and Michael Bush. Pin winners were Chook and Brendan Wykes.
Badge draw this Thursday night is $200.
Better news that the jackpot is up around $800. Dorro had a crack at it last week to no avail, too much coaching from the sidelines had him all confused.
Golf for the summer months is 18 holes on Saturdays and the Sunday morning’s 8.30am ambrose.
