As the Nyngan Show draws closer, Miss Ticehurst’s reign as showgirl is coming to an end, but she has one more event where she’ll represent Nyngan, the zone competition.
The current showgirl will be pitted against other showgirls around the region to see who will represent the Central West at the Land Showgirl competition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
“Zone is sneaking up very fast, being held in Parkes on February 20. Our zone, zone six, is the largest in the state with a total of 39 girls in the competition,” Miss Ticehurst said.
“I am looking forward to representing Nyngan and I hope to make it to the state finals in Sydney during March.”
In preparation for next weekend, Miss Ticehurst attended a development weekend in Dubbo, which was a highlight of her showgirl year.
“The best part was the decorum weekend in Dubbo. It was incredible to share a weekend with fellow showgirls across the state. We shared cabins and really got to know each other, considering it was only a weekend. I know these girls are friends I will keep for a long time,” she said.
The development weekend taught the young ladies how to do make-up, cut and colour hair, how to dress for your body shape, speech and etiquette.
“It was a fantastic weekend filled with many laughs, I would encourage all young ladies to enter for the chance to attend such an enjoyable experience,” Miss Ticehurst said.
The local primary school teacher is encouraging all young locals to put their hand up for this great experience in 2016.
“Showgirl is an experience I will take with me for the rest of my life. It’s not only educated me as a young lady, it has been an exciting journey filled with many fun and exciting times,” Miss Ticehurst said.
“It is a great opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and be involved with new and exciting things.
“I would advise these young women to have fun and be yourselves, sometimes I have found myself looking back and wishing I’d been in the moment more,” she said.
