The students demonstrated the talent from way out west and teacher Angie White was very proud.
She said only a group of students went down to the Dubbo Eisteddfod.
“On Sunday a group of the senior students competed in the Open Section with an up-beat hip-hop routine, in their first outing at an eisteddfod,” she said.
“They did an awesome job and were one point of placing amongst groups of very experienced dancers from right across the region.
“A bit more practice should see them well and truly up there for their next eisteddfod at Wellington in July,” she concluded.
Mrs White was also delighted by the effort of Angus Wallis who won the 11 and 12 years section despite only being 10 years old.
“He came away with first prize after executing a polished routine and one adjudicator deemed it amazing for a boy so young. Needless to say we are most proud of him,” she said.
Mrs White commended the family and friends for their ongoing support.
The experienced dance teacher is excited about the WSPA’s next big concert, “Nyngan’s Got Talent” later this month.
The event is a highlight for the dance school as they encourage community groups and businesses to submit an act all in the name of charity.
“Already Nyngan Hospital has sent out a challenge to all other groups and service providers to battle it out with them for the coveted first prize award and there is some covert practising taking place in several secret locations,” she said.
“We do hope Nyngan Tigers and Bogan Bulls rise to the occasion for a Palais Turf war dance off while a step up and step out head to head from local schools would really add to what could be an explosive event.
“We also hope the local constabulary only visit to perform because no show is complete without a man in uniform and, no, David Scott’s mankini does not count as a uniform.”
The WSPA will raise money to go back into the Nyngan community.
“We are racing towards $100,000 raised over the last few years which is an amazing effort for a small town,” Mrs White said.
“Our judges are set to dish out more constructive or destructive criticism with their usual flair and way with words but only if Lynie Webster can control them. Otherwise it could end in tears.”
If you have a serious talent you are more than welcome to take part.
