Our members had been practising their plays and musical for some time before Cultural Day. Thanks must go to Cultural Officer Margaret Gudgeon and Gladys Thompson for all of the work that they put into it.
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea was supplied by own members and organised by friend Tracie. Perhaps the crowd was not as big as other years but I think the weather with all the rain had a lot to do with that.
Judges were Mrs Annette Irving and Mr Geoff Whitford. The judges had a difficult task and they did a very good job. Thanks must go to the Nyngan Branch for their plays and musicals and to the Reverend Jo Smalbil for her great singing.
Results of the day are as follows:
Best play won by Hermidale
Best comedy, the Tramp, won by Hermidale
Best musical won by Hermidale
Best actress, Jackie Birchmore, Hermidale Branch
Best supporting actress, Gladys Thompson, Hermidale Branch
Best choir, Nyngan Branch
Best solo song, Reverend Jo Smalbil
We are all rather exhausted by all of our acting but it was very enjoyable and I am sure everyone is ready to get back into it again.
At the moment we are most sad owing to the death of our great member and friend Jean Boland.
Our deepest sympathies are extended to her son Peter and all of her sisters and brothers.
Our next CWA meeting is at Dawn Elder’s home on Wednesday, September 28.
