Was the water cold? No.
Was the water freezing? ABSOLUTELY!
Nigel Swivelneck Tyack put his hand up for the wuss of the week by not even bringing his swimming gear, but he was joined by President Rollin Ron Lovett who piked out on the blocks and refused to get in the water after feeling a tiny splash of water.
Due to concerns that there were icebergs floating in the water, and the possibility of penguins and polar bears making an appearance, the program was shortened to 30 metres, 50m and 100m, with slow times being the order of the day.
Results – 30 metre Final: 1st Reece NT Tyack; 2nd Vicki Chicken Queen Cluderay; 3rd Dick Wireless Whiteford
50 metre Final: 1st Dick Wireless Whiteford; 2nd Reece NT Tyack; 3rd Steve
100 metre: 1st Curly Col Cluderay; 2nd Steve; 3rd No third swimmer
Congratulations to the swimmers above who featured on the podium, and to the other intrepid Splashers who braved the conditions and who deserve a mention – Lyn Mouse Fawkes, Curly Col Cluderay and Victoria Nemo Cleaver.
A moving tribute to one of our long term members – Our Mate Col Eldridge – of a minute silence was held on the pool deck this morning as we remembered one of the nicest men we have ever known. His smiling face, quick wit, always ready to lend a helping hand attitude and his dogged determination to swim every race including the 100m - gone but not forgotten – RIP Our Mate... we miss you...
