Community groups, businesses and councils are encouraged to apply for up to $250,000 in government funding.
Minister for Justice and Police, Troy Grant, announced the funding on Monday. He said that crime is a social and financial burden that the NSW Government is committed to reducing to boost local safety and pride.
“We know there is always more that can be done to stamp out crime in our towns and suburbs and we are working with the community to identify opportunities. The reasons for and consequences of crime in one region of NSW can be very different to other regions, therefore it is important we invest in local solutions,” he said.
Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries has encouraged his electorate to apply for the funding.
“The Community Safety Fund will invest in projects that address local crime hot spots and promote safe and inclusive use of public space,” he said.
“I know many people in our community have innovative ideas on how to make our community a safer place and I encourage them to take up this funding opportunity.”
Mr Humphries said the issues faced by local towns and the solutions to solving them vary across the electorate which is why it is important to invest in local projects.
“Examples of projects that have been funded previously include installing CCTV and lighting in public spaces and treatment counselling services for those considered at risk of offending,” he said.
