The joint federal government and local council funded project is nearing completion at its Pangee Street site.
At their February meeting in the closed and confidential meeting, the council unanimously resolved “that the general manager takes the necessary steps to establish the Bogan Shire Medical under the management and control of the Bogan Shire Council.”
Councillors also resolved that the General Manager be authorised to undertake the necessary recruitment and appointments to staff the centre.
Councillors also approved adjustments to the 2016/2017 operating budget to enable the establishment of the medical centre and they approved a letter drop advising shire residents of the opening date of the new centre.
In his mayoral column last week, Cr Ray Donald said the Western NSW Primary Health Network would assist council in the set up of the centre.
“The Primary Health Network will provide considerable assistance to set up the centre and the Shire will also work closely with the Local Health District,” he said.
“Commencing the centre will require some budget outlays by [the] council however, we are sure we have community support in getting our new Medical Centre operating so our Shire can benefit from the upgrade to Medical Services locally available.”
Bogan Shire Council bought the Pangee Street property in 2014 when movements for the Medical Centre began. Mark Coulton allocated $600,000 to the project in 2015.
