A single father has retained his licence despite speeding at more than 30 kilometres per hour over the speed limit in Nyngan. Christopher Athol Cronin, Bourke, was charged with Class A motor vehicle exceeding a speed more than 30 kilometres an hour when driving along the Mitchell Highway in Nyngan. He was given a good behaviour bond.

Mr Cronin pleaded guilty to driving at 87km/h in a 50km/h zone. His solicitor Brendan Dunstan told Nyngan court last month: “He was leaving Nyngan going towards Dubbo near the safe-t-cam, and he wound up too quickly,”
Mr Dunstan explained why Mr Cronin’s license was so vital to him.
“He lives 100 kilometres west of Bourke on a property...his three young children reside with him,” he said.
Mr Dunstan said if the father had no licence, it would impact on Mr Cronin’s children. Magistrate Paul Hayes said Mr Cronin’s history did not assist him, but he took into account the need for a licence and the significant fine paid.
