The Cougars are a newly formed team of mature Nyngan women who are playing their first year together in the competition.
The Tigers have played together for a number of years.
“Nyngan Tigers, with an average age around 20 years Nyngan Cougars, with let’s just say an average age substantially higher,” netball correspondent Jodi Douglas said.
Despite the dubious weather, all games went ahead under what was dubbed a “surprising blue sky.”
Tigers, with an average age of 20 versus Cougars, with an average age of substantially higher.
First quarter saw Cougars jump to an early lead of 18 to 9 through capitalising on a number of intercepts mostly from the defence end.
The second quarter saw Cougars add another 10 to their lead with a 15 to 5 result.
“Jess, the stand in coach for Tigers with Mark away, steadied the ship with some insightful advice and motivated them to lift for the second half,” Mrs Douglas said.
Quarter three saw the Tigers find their feet and really move the ball well.
This quarter finished even at 10 goals each but didn’t claw back any of the Cougars overall lead of 19.
The final quarter saw a number of turnovers by both teams and again was evenly matched at eight goals a piece.
On the final hooter Nyngan Cougars comfortably took the win 51 to 32.
The teams are already gearing up for a rematch.
Cheer one or both teams on during the highly anticipated game on July 29. It’s a must see game.
Four Nyngan sides are competing in a gala day on Sunday, including the Cougars.
Other results saw Interdivision 1 narrowly go down 45 to 38, Interdivision 3 won 54 to 12. This team has had big wins each week and has been rewarded by being upgraded to Interdivision 2. Interdivision 4 also had a strong win 44 to 27. Our 12s team continued their domination of this age group with a 59 to 7 win. They are taking on the other undefeated team next week so that will be a good game to really test them. Our 11s put up a valiant effort but lost 32 to 15. 10s also missed out by a few goals 14 to 5. If you are in Dubbo next week and want to cheer Nyngan on we have the 10s and Div 4 playing at 10am, 11s and 12s at 11.30. Newly upgraded Div 2, Div 1 and B Grade Tigers are all at 1.30 and the B Grade Cougars are at 3pm.
Good luck to the four Nyngan sides competing in the gala day on Sunday – 11s, 12s, Nyngan Cougars and another open side playing as Nyngan Harpil.
