The esteemed award was a surprise to Fr McLeod who was asked to attend the July Council Meeting by Mayor Ray Donald.
“The deputy premier and and local member for Barwon were in attendance. Much to my surprise, the deputy premier presented me with a premier’s award,” he told The Nyngan Observer.
Fr McLeod is now the proud owner of a community service award, bearing his name and the NSW coat of arm and a certificate stating: “in recognition and appreciation of your outstanding contribution to the community.”
The Anglican priest has worked around the region for 13 years covering Trundle, Nyngan, Cobar, Hermidale, Tottenham, West Bogan, Bourke, Brewarrina, Wanaaring, Nevertire, Weilmoingle and Warren.
“Where possible I have tried to involve myself in the wider community in which the church work has taken me. This has been a challenging task,” he said.
“Over the years I have visited ‘Glennie Hostel” and tried to ‘bring the other side of the world’ into the lives of many residents.”
