Helen Crosland and Molly Smith were the overall winners of the Bogan Shire Council Capture the Beauty of the Bogan Photographic Competition held throughout August.

Helen won the over 17 competition and Molly won the under 17, both with stunning photographs of the Bogan River.
The competition attracted more than 20 entries, which have been on display in the front reception area of Council.
Second place getter in the open section was Queensland resident Kim Michael, and in the junior section it was Nyngan High School student Lily Smith.
The aim of the competition was to showcase the beauty of the Bogan River and Rotary Park precinct, and to encourage visitors to the area to keep it looking clean and tidy.
It complemented a Bogan Shire campaign to reduce litter and vandalism in the precinct, which is a popular gathering place for passing traffic and also locals.
A special transparent rubbish bin was installed in Rotary Park to show how much litter Council staff pick up in the park during a one month period. This is rubbish not placed in the conventional bins provided.
Bogan Shire Senior Development and Environment Officer, Kayla Volker said the public would be possibly be confronted by the amount of rubbish left lying around, particularly when there was a number of waste bins provided within Rotary Park.
“Hopefully by actually showing people what we pick up, they will understand how serious the matter is, and encourage others to use the rubbish bins provided,” she said.
“Rotary Park is a beautiful area and we want to keep it looking beautiful for our locals and visitors”.
Each week Council updated the progress of the bin on its Facebook Page, and after four weeks it was just about filled to the top.
The Capture the Beauty of the Bogan competition was a joint initiative by Bogan Shire Council, NetWaste and the Environmental Protection Authority.
