WOMEN

Congratulations to the lady pennants teams on their success at West Dubbo on Sunday.

Pennant team No.3 won 4/1 against West Dubbo and now go to region 12 which will be held at Cowra on May 14 - 18.

A great feat for lady pennant team No.4 who also won 4/1 and now play division 4 winners in the final.

CHS STATE KNOCKOUT

Nyngan High School beat Warren Central School 29-5 in the first round of CHS State Knockout.

The three players that make up the team are Tim Walsh, Trae Smith and Terrence Ryan.

They now head off to Orange to try and win the Western Region event and qualify for the state finals.

MEN’S

Men’s pennant team No.3 played at Nyngan on Saturday against Narromine.

Narromine was far too good on the day cleaning up Nyngan 10/nil.

Sunday, March 18, men’s pennant team No.7 travelled to Dubbo Railway (Sporties) with a very successful day for them winning overall by 10/Nil. Congratulations.

NYNGAN GOLF CLUB

'Crack & Plumbers' finished the season off on a high note being the champions of the 2017/18 twilight golf season.

They were also the 'Best of round 21' with 44 points in a five way count-back, their team is Luke Smith, Brad McDougall, Jason Shone and Rod Herbert.

They amassed 29 points for the season just the one point ahead of the fast finishers 'Neil Earthmoving' who beat 'Macquarie Electrics' in the last round and left them stranded on 27 points equal third with the 'Rough Nuts'.

Congratulations to Luke's team on their very consistent form all season a great effort by the placegetters, so near to knocking off the 'Plumbers'.

A special mention to Don Lister who did all the groundwork to get the show on the road.

Eighty-four players, plus reserves, kept plugging along all season giving it their best shot and certainly deserve a mention thank you one and all.

Saturday’s game was closing day, a spectacular round by 'Neil Earthmoving' with 49 points was a mile ahead of the 'Combined Team' with 45 points.

Pin winners Robyn Harris ad Peter Murphy.

Sunday was the last game of the morning nine-hole competition.

Tim and Janine Tulenew along with Colin Arthur McCarthy handled the wind and dust pretty well and scored 43 points.

The big-hitting chalkies Michael Gibson and Tristan Dalforno had Robyn Harris for a partner and managed 39 points and whacked plenty of timber on their way around.

Tim Tulenew was the sole pin winner.

He was also the point score winner with 25 points, Ozzie Smith came second with 23 points and Tex third with 21 points.

Badge draw is for $1500 this Thursday.

Lyn Hawley putted for the $1486 last week, no happy endings for her.

That's it for about three or four weeks while the watering system is installed.

WARREN

Ashleigh Stanley, member of a well known racing family, was an excited young lady when riding her career first winner, Dungannon, at Warren on Saturday.

Bathurst based trainer and former jockey Peter.W.Stanley is the father of Ashleigh Stanley while her brother Justin.W.Stanley is a former jockey and now trainer at Dubbo and another brother Daniel Stanley has been a jockey on both the professional and picnic circuits.

Acting as strapper for Dungannon at Warren was Ashleigh Stanley’s mother Melissa Eassie who has a big role in helping run the Bathurst stable.

Dungannon is trained by Peter.W.Stanley for Paul Ambrosoli, Pat Ambrosoli, Richard Nutman and Bernadette Nutman, all from Hawkesbury.

Before his recent retirement, Paul Ambrosoli was regarded by many as the best greyhound racecaller in the world.

Well back in the early stages of the Troon Grazing Partnership Benchmark 55 Handicap (1600 metres), Dungannon swept around the field and took the lead at the top of the long Warren straight.

Holding on gamely, Dungannon (Ashleigh Stanley, $14) won by a long head from Butterfly Sky (Tony Cavallo, $8.50) with a long neck to third placed Dream In Colour (Vad Bolozhinskyi, $6.50).

Dr Vandi, the last horse purchased by the late, great trainer John Lundholm, won the Barker Old Boys BM 50 Handicap (1200 metres) at Warren when well ridden by Michael Hackett.

A Dubbo Yearling Sale graduate, Dr Vandi is trained by John Lundholm’s grandson Clint Lundholm for several members of the Lundholm family and Phil Wheeler and Drew Irwin from Dubbo.

Leading throughout, Dr Vandi ($2.70 favourite) held out Quite Frankly (Katelyn Jenkinson, $6) and Chatteriz (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $9.50) in the drive to the line.

Kath Bell-Pitomac, a former jockey on the Picnic circuit, produced an outstanding ride to win the Haddon Rig Class 2 Handicap (1000 metres) on the Gayna Williams, Mudgee-trained Griffin’s Gaze.

From near last, Griffin’s Gaze ($7) finished fast along the rails to beat Bring A Beer Along (Ken Dunbar, $3.90 fav.) and Slickster (Billy Cray, $6).

Dubbo jockey Ken Dunbar was also at his best when driving the Garry Lunn (Dubbo-trained), Toorak Beauty ($13) through a gap to win the “Yarrandale” Maiden Handicap, 1400 metres.

Champion jockey Greg Ryan kept his many fans happy with a winning double, the Rodney Robb, Nyngan trained Jessie Prevails ($6.50) in the “Wongali” Maiden Plate (1000 metres) and Bend It Like Benny ($2 fav.) for Coonamble trainer Lindsay Kennedy in the “New Park” Class 1 Handicap, 1400 metres.

The Trangie Gold Cup will feature on Saturday and the $150,000 WRA Country Championship Qualifier at Dubbo on Sunday.
