COUNTRY UNIVERSITY CENTRE
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, Skills and Small Business John Barilaro, and Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries have officially opened a new Country Universities Centre (CUC) in Broken Hill. The Far West Centre is the second of at least five new Country Universities Centres to be opened in regional NSW thanks to $8 million in funding from the NSW Government. The new Country Universities Centre in Broken Hill will provide students with access to WiFi, computers, meetings rooms and video conferencing facilities, plus staff that will provide students with professional support, assignment assistance, as well as tutorials and workshops. The centre will support local students undertaking courses at any Australian university.

TEACH RURAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Assistant Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell and Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries visited Coolah Central School to discuss the success of the NSW Government’s Teach Rural scholarships.
The first cohort of graduates of the program – part of the NSW Government’s $59.4 million Rural and Remote Education Human Resources Strategy – are due to start work in public schools across the state in 2018, with over 150 NSW public schools to benefit from the enhanced incentives and initiatives offered to teachers. The Teach Rural program not only allows our regional students to have access to top quality educators, it also gives teachers from the city the opportunity to experience the beauty of regional NSW and the benefits rural living can have. WATER MANANGEMENT
The NSW Government has marked a new era of water regulation and compliance with the commencement of the state’s independent Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR). The NRAR will carry out on-the-ground compliance inspections, having already established a new hotline for the public to report any compliance concerns. NRAR is the cornerstone of the NSW Government’s water reform package and demonstrates our commitment to improving water management in NSW. To contact the NRAR Hotline and make a report call: 1800 633 362. For further information visit NRAR online.
GRANTS FOR SMALL PROJECTS
Applications are now open for the 2018 Community Building Partnership Program. $330,000 is available for projects in Barwon, and I urge local councils and not-for-profit groups to apply for the funds they need to deliver projects with social, environmental and recreational outcomes. This is a great opportunity to get the support your community group needs to make real improvements in the places you meet, train or recreate. Applications are open from Monday 7 May and close at 5pm on Friday 15 June 2018. For more information about the NSW Government’s 2018 Community Building Partnership Program, visit: the www.nsw.gov.au/cbp
NEW LANES FOR HIGHWAY
The $7.2 million upgrade to improve safety and traffic flow along the Newell Highway through the Pilliga State Forest has been completed with new southbound and northbound overtaking lanes now open to traffic. The NSW Government carried out the work as part of a larger package to deliver additional overtaking lanes along the full length of the Newell Highway, as part of the $500 million Newell Highway Package to deliver more overtaking lanes on the Highway.
Since 2011 the NSW Government has completed 17 new overtaking lanes on the highway with a further southbound overtaking lane being built 45 kilometers north of Coonabarabran. For more information on western NSW projects, visit www.rms.nsw.gov.au/projects/western-nsw/index.html
