Member for the Parkes electorate Mark Coulton has congratulated the Nyngan Museum on a grant of $3187 to develop their project.

“I believe the Nyngan Museum project will be a fitting tribute to appropriately acknowledge the end of the war 100 years ago,” Mr Coulton said.

“On 11 November this year, Australians will commemorate the centenary of the Armistice that ended the First World War (1914-18), which is a hugely significant milestone in our history.

“The Armistice Centenary Grants Program provides grants of between $3,000 and $50,000 for local community-based projects and activities that commemorate Australian service men and women from all conflicts and celebrate a just and secure peace.”

The Nyngan Museum represents one of 50 successful applicants receiving funding for community projects to commemorate Australia’s wartime history and the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.

Museum Volunteer Val Keighran showed Mr Coulton around the museum and said the funding is a “marvellous thing for the museum”. 

“[Mr Coulton] was most impressed with our display … it’s a wonderful thing for us to keep improving our museum, especially for our World War One exhibition,” Mrs Keighran said. 

Mr Coulton said the restricted round of grants have been designed to deliver local projects and activities to communities to commemorate Australia’s role in the First World War and pay tribute to service men and women and the Armistice Centenary.

“The commitment of organisations such as Nyngan Museum ensures communities like ours can preserve our local history for future generations, and I look forward to seeing the project evolve,” Mr Coulton said.
