Nyngan Netball’s registrar Jodi Douglas said everyone had an “amazing” time.
“It was a really amazing experience for the girls to get to play, they had a really good time and it’s something they’ll always remember,” Mrs Douglas said.
Initially Mrs Douglas entered a competition to get Sydney Swift players to visit Nyngan.
While being unsuccessful in that competition, Mrs Douglas received an email from Netball NSW’s Mel Chapman who offered a consolation prize to bring seven girls to Sydney to play at quarter time.
“I couldn’t believe it, what a wonderful opportunity they gave the girls, it’s a great initiative to get kids from the bush to come and experience something like this on such a grand scale,” Mrs Douglas said.
The girls, who had court-side seats, took centre stage after the first quarter of the game, playing against a team from Wagga Wagga.
Ms Douglas said everyone “had the best time” and said she struggled taking a group photo of the girls who were continually jumping up and down.
“It was quite the trip to Sydney, but really worth it,” Mrs Douglas said.
“The parents also had an amazing experience watching their girls and the Swifts verse Fever game, which was very close until the end.”
It was a really amazing experience ... and it’s something they’ll always remember.
“The most excited and enthusiastic parent award probably had to go to Trevor Dutschke. He very obviously had an amazing night with plenty of cheering and laughing from the back row. It was so good to see everyone have such an fantastic time.”
Mrs Douglas thanked Netball NSW for the opportunity they gave and all who came.
