Members of the community, the Bogan Shire Council and sporting clubs attended the ceremony to mark the special occasion.
Guests were welcomed to country by Kailee Jackson and Whitney Pack.
Representatives from the rugby league club, rugby union club, netball club and cricket club were also present to discuss the positive benefits the new upgrades to the oval will bring, long into the future.
The lights have been a project groups and members of the community have been pushing for since 2002, and is something that Bogan Shire Mayor Ray Donald took the time to pay tribute to.
"I'd like to pay tribute to all those organisations and people who for many years have put in for grants to have these lights put up at Larkin Oval," Cr Donald said.
"Previously they haven't been successful but nevertheless I acknowledge the enormous amount of effort that went into compiling those applications which were refused.
"Hopefully those people look back and see how they contributed to to tonight."
The new lights were funded under round one of the state government's Stronger Country Communities fund, which delivers local infrastructure to improve the quality of life for people in regional NSW.
The Nyngan Observer was told that the project was delivered on time and under budget, therefore upgrading the grandstands and installing an electronic scoreboard was also incorporated into the project.
"It's wonderful to have them and have them installed, and as you've heard from all representatives, they have the potential to enable Larkin oval to be used for 12 months of the year," Cr Donald said.
