Mixed bowls for mother's day was held on Sunday and a good crowd of new and regular bowlers. The winners were Phil Gibson and Catherine Fuller. 2nd place went to Adrian and Kayne Taylor, lucky losers were Anneleise Shields and Wayne Kearns and Jody and Trae Smith. Congratulations to all the winners.

Nyngan Bowling Club will be holding their Queens' Birthday three bowl Open Triples competition on 8th and 9th June 2019 with prize money of $6035.00. Nomination fee $70.00 per person. Nomination sheet and flyers are on the board at the bowling club so check it out for more information. Get your names down early as it is restricted to first 28 teams.

A narrow winning margin of one point in Saturday's four ball. Steve Peterson and Tex Tomek were the victors with 43 pts, a low score in the chilly conditions.

They were only the improvers on the way home having 22pts, thanks to a string of three pointers plus a birdie by Peto. Tex wins the heavy point scorer on the front nine. The runners up were Don Lister and Viv Pateman. Only one blemish on their card where they both crashed scoring zero points on the 15th.

Unfortunate maybe, but that's life on a golf course. Kirby Edwards was the star of the day with her first ever birdie, a four on the 7th worth 5pts. Sunday's stableford was another close finish with Ozzie Smith 39pts just ahead of the first finishing Steve Peterson 38pts. Ozzie got off to a flying start with 5x3pts on the front nine and a 3pt lead.

It was Peto's turn to shine on the back nine, steadily pegging back the leg-way, but not quite enough. Brent Harris had 35pts, next was a couple of 34s by Dorro and John Wynne.

A very good score of 21 pts by Mim Pateman in Wednesday's 9 hole sprint very close with 19 pts was Jodie Stewart 20pts then Jenny Holmes 19pts pin winner Dolly Ryan and Di Donald fair scores of 15pts.

Next Saturday is the May monthly medal sponsored by M.S.D Mining Solutions, a new welcome sponsor of the monthly medals. Sunday is show day with a stableford (single) event in lieu.

The mighty Tigers made it three for three with a gritty 31-24 victory over the Spacemen in Parkes.

The Spacemen shot out of the gates and held a 12-nil lead after just nine minutes of action.

The Tigers were a bit rattled in the first ten but once Justin and Jacob settled the boys down and we got in the battle, the Tigers regained control and fought their way back to hold an 18-12 lead at the break.

Carney was powerful in the first 40. The individual try he scored not long before the break was a pearler. He exploded straight through the middle of the Parkes pack and didn't look like getting stopped in a 50-metre surge to the line.

It was the Tigers ruggered defence which bought our boys back into the match. Loma and Hammond were ferocious on the edges. Hammond playing better than ever which can be put down to his fitness. Coxy and Justin have got the whole club to a level of fitness we haven't been at for a long time, and the results are showing. Time and the results are showing.

Poor ball control made the second half a lot harder for us than it should have been. Each time we had our foot on Parkes' throat a dropped ball or unforced error would let them off.

The spirit these boys are playing with is unreal.

The halves pairing of Daryl Cubby and Jai Merrit were standouts in the final 20.They steered the boys around and steadied the ship when it was needed.

Jai iced the game with a nice little field goal, four minutes from time to extend our lead to a match winning seven points to see the final score 31-24 to the Tigers. A real team effort by the boys, it's hard to single out any one player. They all ripped in and are going great guns at the moment.

The reserve grade side well and truly put the cleaners through Parkes. The way the boys are going is a real reflection of the position the club is in at the moment. There is real competition for sports throughout the grades.

Tooley has got himself a team of workers who rip in from the get go. Big winger Liam Durrington was powerful, he carried the ball strongly and regularly had two runs in the one set. The opposite winger Dallas Boyd was also a standout, they took the pressure off the forwards coming off our own line making good ground with the footy.

Centre Clinton Edwards was very good again, as were the fat halves pairing of Camo and Sheather. Camo is in careers best form and the extra fitness is definitely helping him.

The result was never in doubt and we ran out 32-6 victors. The u/18s put in a super effort to only go down 28-24 to the strong Parkes outfit.

These boys are literally from all off the place. Egg and Jackson have done a wonderful job to assemble the team and keep the juniors going

Our boys came out of the blocks and held a 10-nil lead early, but condition told late in the game with Parkes coming over the top of us.

Xander Wood was a standout, he made good metres out of dummy half and really showed it to Parkes in defence. He is improving each week and looks one to watch for the Tigers.

Col Rob and Sonny were good again these boys never stop and are the backbone of the team.

It was good to see Alec McCleod make his debut. He scored a good try and will only improve with the more footy he gets under his belt. Big Hugh was another who looks like he will be handy.

The ladies ran into the red hot Spacegirls and never really got into their grove. Our girls tried hard but were outclassed by the ladder-leading Spacegirls.

This weekend we are on the road again when we take on the Cowboys in Wello, in what will be another big test for the club.

Rodney Robb's gelding is right in the running again

The campaign to qualify Austin for the $50,000 Picnic Championship Final at Dubbo in September received a boost when the Rodney Robb-trained galloper won the O'Brien Winter Partners Marthaguy Picnic Cup (1400m) at Quambone on Saturday.

Austin won the Championship last year but is presently well down the list in the qualifying pointscore for the 2019 final.

Ridden by leading picnic jockey Maddison Wright, Austin ($2 favourite) led all the way at Quambone, north-west of Nyngan, to score by more than two lengths from Free Ticket (Steven Kehoe, $3) and Track Flash (Ridge Wilson, $2.10).

Maddison Wright, who travelled from Moruya on the far south coast, also won on Orezira and Knight's Honour.

Part owned by Moree bookmaker Terry Picone and trained by Nyngan-based Robb, Orezira ($1.80 fav.) broke the track record when winning the Elwyn Andrews Memorial Maiden Plate (1100m) by more than seven lengths from Bedlam (Steven Kehoe, $2) and Ticket To El Aye (Angela Taylor, $3.50).

Decades set the pace in the Bronco Lunn Shearing Class 2 Handicap (1200m) before Wright and the Peter 'Wacky' Pennell, Carinda trained Knight's Honour ($1.80 fav.) finished best.

Marpenny (Rowena Dillon, $3.50) and Decades (Steven Kehoe, $2) were second and third.

Steven Kehoe rode his career first winner when the Michael Denison, Coonamble trained Dragon Bells won the Quambone Sundowner Hotel & Roo Shooters Class 3 Handicap (800m).

Folkestone (Rowena Dillon, $2 equal favourite) was the leader but veered wide on the hometurn and eventually finished third, less than a length behind Dragon Bells ($5) and Work And Chat (Ridge Wilson, $11).

Bogan Bulls

The Friday night game against last years defending premier, the Warren Pumas was a tough arm wrestle on a cold night for the Bogan Bulls. It was definitely a game for the forwards and all of our boys dug in very deep. Did we say it was cold? Conditions were hard and both teams tried to dominate.

Nyngan got the early lead when Jayden Bonello slotted over a penalty about 20 minutes in. Warren tried relentlessly for a try towards the end of the first half but had to eventually concede and take the penalty to even things up to 3-3.

The second half was every bit or tougher than the first with the only points scored a try of individual brilliance by Jakey Perko to kick, chip and chase down the sideline and out run the defence and go over for a magnificent try.

As much as both teams tried, neither team could get the ball out to the backs and it continued in the forwards. There were about 25 scrums in total which shows the incredible effort the forwards put in during the game. Our standouts and point winners were 3. Gussy Currans 2. Fletcher Jackson and 1. Simon Bell

And Tom Cleaver gave absolutely everything to get Players Player and also got the ref's points. This weekend we're at home under the new lights on Friday, May 17 against the Brewarrina Brumbies at 7pm. A big thank you to the Tigers for accommodating the change.
