Despite the dry conditions and neighbouring towns, Cobar and Bourke cancelling their shows, Nyngan did not disappoint.

Vice president Rodney Robb welcomed the official party and everyone to the opening of the show, and thanked the committee for their tireless work bringing the two days together.

The crowd fell silent for a minute in honour of the late Chris Elder, former President of the Nyngan Show Society.

Nyngan born and raised Rodney Quinn officially opened the show reminiscing of his time growing up and the influence the town had on his career as a jockey.

"We had a bit of fun here [as a kid] being back here brings back some nice memories of the pony club days and learning the skills that helped me through the rest of my career, thanks to the help of Rodney Robb and many other people."

Katie Atherton was not only awarded local supreme rider of the show, but also her horse AC Charisma was awarded local supreme horse of the show.

Life memberships were presented to Vernette Gibson, Judy Stimpson, Belle Richardson, Laddie Richardson and Dawn Elder for their tireless dedication to the Show Society. Jill Elder also accepted the life membership award on behalf of her late husband Chris Elder.

"I would like to thank the Show committee for this prosperous award for Chris for life membership," Mrs Elder said.

"Chris loved the show, it didn't matter what was going on at home, too bad about that, the show would go on.

"I first came to the show 39 years ago with Chris and spent three days in the announcers box.

"Chris started off announcing at the show, and he just loved every aspect ... he started the speed shear and was totally committed to the show movement and I know that everybody here misses his contribution and his presence here at the show.

"So thank you to the show committee you've done a very wonderful job."

Elaine McLaughlin also received a medal from the Royal Agricultural Society for her commitment to the Show community.
