The NSW state librarian Dr John Vallance and the manager of the state library services Cameron Morley were in town to admire the work completed under a state funding grant, but also to eat cupcakes as part of the Biggest Morning Tea.

Nyngan library manager Maria Kinsey said they were "very lucky" to get the two top librarians out to Nyngan, and discussed the work which has been completed under the $90,000 NSW State Library grant.

Upgrades included the replacement of the air conditioning unit, the replacement of technology including eight new public computers, multi-functional photocopier, a photo scanner and printer, self service kiosk, e-fun table for juniors, which Ms Kinsey said has been used by nearly 800 children since its installation into the library, new LED lighting, vertical blinds, and an electronic sign outside the library.

"We're really up to date at this point," Ms Kinsey said.

During the morning tea, to raise money for the Cancer Council, Dr Vallance took the time to discuss "how excited" he was to be in Nyngan, and the importance of community libraries.

"It's wonderful to be here, because I love exploring my home state and I'm getting to know it," Dr Vallance said.

"The State Librarian is responsible for supporting all the libraries across NSW and as I said, libraries are going through a really exciting period of renewal and rebirth at the moment.

"Every library is growing up, is developing and renewing itself in the image of its own community, so coming to the library at Nyngan gives you a wonderful snapshot of whats happening in Nyngan at the moment and the strength of the community.

"It's actually quite inspiring just to look around and just see how important this place is."

The NSW State Librarian also took the time to announce a new campaign aimed at enhancing local library numbers.

"At the moment just under 45 per cent of the people in NSW are active registered users of their local library," Dr Vallance said.

"We want to bring that up to 50 per cent, which we think we should be able to do quite easily.

"So Cameron and I decided this morning that we would launch this campaign in Nyngan and we want to try and encourage people who come and use the library here in Nyngan to sign up for a library card and make their support for their local library on the public record, which will make it much easier for us to lobby govt for continued support."
