Now Leonie Farlow is organising the Nyngan Town Hall Memorial Debutante ball for young girls aged 16 to 21 to be presented on November 30.
When Ms Farlow returned to Nyngan five months ago to open a clothing store, looking at all the beautiful gowns got her thinking.
"I got these beautiful gowns in and people said 'what's the use of having a gown, with no where to go?'," she said.
For Ms Farlow the deb ball is not only an opportunity for the town to dress up, but relive memories made in the town hall over the years.
"For me it's really good to go back, because I made my debut here in 1977, and there were 18 of us doing our debut that year, and it was just so much fun and a learning experience," she said.

"If we can encourage some of the old debs to come back to town for the event I think it would be absolutely wonderful to relive."
Ms Farlow said she is also asking members of the community to bring in their old photos and memories of the town hall to display on the evening.
"I just think we owe something to that hall, they had many things in there [back in the day]," she said.
"We're getting photos of anything that happened in the hall, past balls cabarets, weddings, lots of things that happened and we're going to scan their photos and put them along the walls of the town hall."
In the months leading up to the ball, Ms Farlow said they would be hosting a raffle at the clubs and organising a debutante fashion parade to help raise money for CanAssist and Macquarie Homestay in Dubbo.
Ms Farlow thanked the Bogan Shire Council for covering the outgoing costs of the hall.
Those wishing to take part in the debutante ball must see Ms Farlow, the Newsagency, Marts Cafe, Innovations or Brads Menswear by September 1.
Photos of the town hall can be taken to Leonie's Fashion and Workwear or Innovations to be scanned.
