Trae Smith defeated Shelby Powell in a close game which was a tie after 12 ends and an extra end had to be played. Malik Chatfield defeated Trae Smith over 15 ends in a well-fought game. Jedd (Bomber) Healey won the mat drive. Shelby and Jaidyn received a prize as semi-finalists. Thanks to Oscar Sheather who gave a speech on behalf of the junior bowlers thanking all for their help and Mick Walsh for his efforts and management of the tournament and also thanks to Graham Jackson and Angela Smith of the Nyngan Newsagency for their sponsorship of this event.

Championship games: Final of major fours 2019 winners are Ron Smith, Paul Walsh, John Wynne and Rex Vane defeating Tristan Dal Forno, Wayne Kearns, Mick Walsh and Tim Walsh. Rex's team got a brilliant start and Tim's team although playing well failed to bridge the gap.

Handicap Singles rounds: Marie Bexon defeated Dianne Smith in a close game. Mixed Pairs Doreen Read and Mick McGlynn defeated Deanna Stephens and Don Smith in a very close game getting up at the last end to win by one shot. Rick Jermyn and Maxine Christoff defeated Rex and Deb Vane.

Golden Oldies winners: Helen Beetson, Brian Quinton and Ian Midgley.

Wednesday Bowls winners: Jacob Homer and Greg Wright.

Sunday Bowls winners: Jeff Snedden and Ron Sullivan. Jeff was pleased to say he has been coming to Nyngan for 12 years and this is the first time he has beaten Phil Gibson.

A fraction behind at drinks, Dolly Ryan and Deb Matheson clicked on the back nine with 42 shots to take out the ladies foursomes title, not an easy game to play they like everyone else had some rough holes, but they kept calm and finished with 91 gross for the round a three-shot margin over Jodie Stewart and Viv Pateman who in turn were one better than Jodie Douglas and Janine Tulenew followed by Jenny Holmes and Judy Read, handicap honours went to Jodie and Viv with 69 nett, Jenny won the NTP.

In the men's Anthony Ah See and Anthony Griffiths had an almighty tussle with Les Dorrington and Tim Tulenew for the title, the two Anthonys took the lead on the 11th and maintained that till the 18th, 76 gross for them and a 77 gross for the pair of lefties, a wasted chance on the 17th was the downer.

First time on the podium for Steve Peterson when he teamed up with Croc Read to win the handicap they had 67 nett with too many dramas unlike the runners up Ozzie Smith and Greg Matheson 67.5nett, they had shockers on the 10th/11th/18th in golf terms (toughski). Congrats to the champs of 2019 and the also Rans for having a go.

Saturday's game was sponsored by Bill Hare from Outback Carpets a Three Person Ambrose. A sub-Par round of 65 by Janine/Tim Tulenew and Tristan Dal Forno gave them a 57 nett, a tad better than Bill Hare/Ken Burt/Chicky Parry, they were also 3 under and finished with 57.83 nett. Hot on their heels were Brendan/Ozzie Smith/Rod Herbert and the Matheson clan 58.67 tee, Pin winners long drivers Corin Ah See, Dolly, Ozzie/Herbo/Lewie Jnr/Nate/Deb, many thanks to Bill and Outback Carpets for the day.

Jodie Stewart had a whopping 40 points in the mid-weeker, the length of the straight, ahead of Ali Morriss and Dolly both 31 points.

Next Saturday is the Club Championships 27 holes with a 10am start.

Sunday is Nyngan Tyres and Batteries day an Irish 2Ball, sponsors are Steve and Merril Peterson.

NATIONAL CALL-UP FOR SKINNER

Being a coach at the very top level of the game had always been the goal for Jess Skinner. She just wasn't expecting to achieve it this quickly.

The Trangie-based women's rugby league mentor was shocked last week when she received a call saying she would be the assistant coach for the Australian women's Prime Minister's XIII side that tours Fiji next month. It caps a rapid rise to the top for the head coach of the Western Rams women's side.

"It's not something I expected or thought possible. I'd always wanted to do it but maybe in five or 10 years," she said, before speaking about the chance to work alongside the best. There's so many great coaches around and this is just a great opportunity to learn. It's something else I can learn from and bring that back out west." The role is something of a reward for Trangie-based Skinner and the entire western area as a whole.

Jillaroos coach Brad Donald and his team have been aware of the work Skinner and players in the region have been doing.

Skinner isn't the only proof of that, with Orange star Kaitlyn Phillips being named in the Australian side for the game in Fiji.

While it may seem a rapid rise to the top for the coach and player, they're just part of a rapidly developing sport and have been rewarded for a huge amount of work.

"It was the start of 2018 when I started taking it more seriously," Skinner said of her coaching. "We moved into the 13-a-side tackle game and I started to develop myself through training and keeping up-to-date with things."

As well as being the head coach of the Rams' women's league and league tag sides, Skinner is also the head coach of the Far West Academy of Sport league tag side, coached the Macquarie Raidettes in the 2019 Group 11 season, and runs the newly-launched Western Women's Rugby League Academy.

She's also spent time around the Jillaroos in the past year as part of an elite coaches development program.

INDIGENOUS KNOCKOUT

On paper it might just seem like more success for rugby league in Wellington but the importance of Saturday's Dubbo Waratahs Knockout victory was uniquely special.

The John Ahsee Memorial side took out the annual event for 2019, lighting up Apex Oval on the way to downing Billy Merritt Memorial in the final. The John Ah See side was predominantly made up of the Cowboys side which took out this season's Group 11 premiership but there was a number of other Wellington products in the lineup, including NRL stars Kotoni Staggs and Tyrone Peachey. The team was playing in honour of 'Budge', and his son Johnny was on hand to hold the silverware aloft after the win in the final.

"This really means a lot. Especially to the family," Johnny Ahsee said. "Dad has been gone for a while now but all these boys came here, stepped up, and had a really good time.

"It was good to watch. It was hard footy but it was good."

It was a gruelling day for all involved, with temperatures nudging 30 degrees as players took part in back-to-back matches.

After the early rounds it came down to the decider where the star-studded Ahsee team took on a Billy Merritt Memorial outfit featuring the likes of Group 11 standouts Josh Merritt, Alex Bonham, Jyie Chapman, Jai Merritt, and Corey Cox as well as ex-Forbes star Farren Lamb.

But they proved no match for the Wellington-based outfit, which ran out 32-18 victors.

Travis Waddell, Feleti Mateo, and Aidan Ryan all scored early to shoot John Ahsee Memorial out to an 18-0 lead.

Mateo's was particularly eye-catching as he burst through the defence on his own 20m line and showed great speed and strength to beat the chasing defence to the tryline.

Just when it seemed the decider could be a one-sided affair, Jayden Merritt powered across to score right on half-time to give the trailing side a real boost.

The Billy Merritt Memorial fans became even louder shortfly after the break when Chapman floated across field before putting Mark Merritt across and the deficit was cut to six.

But a Tyrone Peachey penalty goal and then Josh Griffiths try put the John Ahsee side back in command.

Two more late tries then sealed it, with a hard-running Clynton Edwards grabbing nothing but a consolation in the shadows of full-time.

Johnny Ah See was proud to see so many current and former Wellington players impress in the knokcout win.

"We've got mates from Newcastle here who've come to help out. And our little mate Kotoni Staggs," he said. "All the kids were getting his [Staggs'] autograph and he loves it and a big thanks goes to him and Tyrone. They're Wello boys." Will Lousick and Griffiths picked up the event's major individual prizes.
