GOLF
With a huge handicap advantage, Dave Buggy has taken out the October monthly medal. He and Chicky Parry logged off with a pair of 65 nett.
Dave has a 22-shot margin over Chicky and he wasted a lot of those on the last couple of holes and got a win on a count-back by .5 of a shot.
Dave joins the other winners in next month's medal playoff sponsored by MSD mining solutions.
Chicky didn't go home empty-handed.
Another eagle by him on the par-five 7th his second in as many weeks.
Also in contention was Viv Pateman going along nicely until the 16th where she began to chip, chip, chip then to make things worse she had a putt, putt, putt.
She finished with 66 nett and probably should have won. The rest were way back in the distance.
Bill Hare was Saturday's stableford winner with 36 pts, a birdie on the 14th gave him some breathing space over Rick Partridge 35 pts.
Both Bill and Rick were neck-and-neck all day, eventually, Rick bombed out on the 16th giving Bill a little bit too much start over the last few holes.
Reasonable scores by John Wynne and Tristan Dal Forno of 34 pts, Les Dorrington was the only pin winner, the 4th on Saturday and the 17th on Sunday.
Next Saturday is a two-person ambrose sponsored by Peter Grant. Sunday is an 18-hole stableford.
Twilight golf kicks off on Monday, October 28 with 18 teams sponsored by Hahn.

RUGBY LEAGUE
WESTERN RAMS
Western coach Tim Ryan is confident the first senior Rams side named in four years is more than capable of seriously challenging France at the end of the month.
Ryan and his selectors have named a 25-strong squad brimming with NRL experience ahead of Western's clash with its international rivals on October 30 at Parkes.
Last season's Nyngan Tigers captain-coach Justin Carney and 2019 Oberon Tigers mentor Josh Starling have been included in Ryan's initial squad, which trained at Wellington on Thursday night.
While CYMS gun Chris Grevsmuhl is also named.
The trio of former NRL players headline what is a tremendously talented group, featuring three players from champion Group 11 club Wellington and four from back-to-back Group 10 premiers Bathurst Panthers.
Ryan says his group of players have been afforded an incredible opportunity to play against an international opponent, the Les Chanticleers expected to play upwards of five players who regularly appear in the English Super League.
And the former Dubbo CYMS mentor is adamant Western's best will rise to the challenge.
"It's the first thing I mentioned to the boys at training; this is very prestigious, coming up against any national team is," Ryan said.
"It's exciting and a lot of the boys were just that when we got together but we're definitely not going over there to lose.
"We're hoping we can give them a good challenge."
A number of players were unavailable for selection - two-time Dave Scott Medal winner Brent Seager is injured while Hawks pair Willie Heta and Rakai Tuheke are both playing in New Zealand - but that hasn't fazed Ryan.
He says the likes of Wellington star Will Lousick, the enigmatic Nyngan half Josh Merritt and livewire Spacies duo Chad Porter and Sam Dwyer will likely make up the bulk of a tantalising backline.
While powerhouse Panthers centre Blake Lawson was another player Ryan says he's looking forward to watching in the flesh.
"To be honest it'll be great to see all of them together," Ryan added.
"We worked on getting to know each other at training and we have a trial against the Riverina coming up to work on a few things on-field.
"With a senior side not being together for a few years now we'll have to adapt quickly but I'm confident we can."
Having mentored the Rams' under-23s now for two seasons, Ryan said he jumped at the opportunity to coach Western's senior side and was hopeful more senior rep footy would follow in the future.
"I'd love to see this as a more permanent thing.
"We hit up Riverina for a game and they're putting a side together," he said.
Western's twilight trial with Riverina will be at Ron Crowe Oval, West Wyalong, on Saturday, October 19.
The Rams tackle France from 7pm at Parkes on October 30.
- WESTERN: Alex Ronanye (Dubbo CYMS), Billy Sing (Dubbo CYMS), Ben Marlin (Dubbo CYMS), Justin Carney (Nyngan Tigers), Josh Merritt (Nyngan Tigers), Sam Dwyer (Parkes Spacemen), Brendan Tago (Parkes Spacemen), Jordan Pope (Parkes Spacemen), Chad Porter (Parkes Spacemen), Mitch Burke (Forbes Magpies), Ben Maguire (Forbes Magpies), Will Lousick (Wellington Cowboys), Aidan Ryan (Wellington Cowboys), Casey Burgess (Mudgee Dragons), Josh Griffiths (Wellington Cowboys), Lachie Munro (Orange CYMS), Ryan Griffin (Orange CYMS), Ethan McKellar (Orange Hawks), Jed Betts (Bathurst Panthers), Jake Betts (Bathurst Panthers), Blake Lawson (Bathurst Panthers), Nick Loader (Bathurst Panthers), Jackson Brien (Oberon Tigers), Josh Starling (Oberon Tigers), Chris Grevsmuhl (Orange CYMS).
WOMEN'S RUGBY LEAGUE
The Wiradjuri Goannas have been savouring the new players heading into the Western Women's Rugby League 2020 competition.
The open competition's defending premiers, having claimed last year's title in a blood and guts grand final against the Panorama Platypi at Kennard park in Wellington.
Coach Amy Townsend, who captained the open's side last year before injury forced her off-field, has been around since the competition's beginning and is excited to see it continue to grow.
"There certainly has been an influx of players, which is great, it's been a goal for a long time for the western committee," Townsend said.
"It's good to see girls especially in the under 13's and 15's getting an opportunity that we didn't have."
While player numbers aren't an issue for the Goannas, especially throughout the junior age groups, Townsend's still impressed by the growth the competition has undergone.
"It's just amazing, to see where it was four years ago when we started the first competition, we were struggling to fill teams of nine, it's a huge credit to everyone, every executive at every club, especially the western women's committee."
"Now they've got one of the strongest competitions in any region."
The latest additions to the junior squad haven't wasted any time in preparing for their debut, according to Townsend.
"We've done a couple of training sessions, teaching the young girls all the fundamental skills, they've picked it up so quickly."
"There are a lot of fresh faces as well, so it'll be good to see everyone mould and gel together."
The first test will be the Goannas' first-round draw of the Castlereagh side that the Goannas defeated in last year's first-round to started their campaign off.
"They're definitely not going to be underestimated, our open's girls want to go back to back, but I think the competition's going to be a lot higher standard, especially with the inclusion of Orange," Townsend said.
"Castlereagh seems to have pulled together quite a decent team, full of girls who have got quite a bit of experience, so we can't take them lightly."
"They're one of the toughest games of the year, they love their contact."
The gate opens at 9.30 at the junior Rugby League ovals at Apex Oval, with the kick-off for the under-13s taking place at 10am. "The thirteens I think will be really good, they're learning very, very quickly. Over the next six weeks, if anyone can get down and show their support, across the board, that would be fantastic."
