Hundreds of residents braced the 35 degree heat to take part in the day's festivities.
The morning began with a free barbecue breakfast provided by the Council.
The official ceremony was underway at 9am with MC Graeme Bourke welcoming everyone to the day.
Nyngan High School students delivered the welcome to country while Michael Dutshke from 3CN church offered a prayer for the community.
After an official welcome by Bogan Shire mayor Ray Donald, six members of the community officially became Australian Citizens.
Salina White, Jesusa (Susan) Dutschke, Denise O'Malley, Palak Shah, Ruchita Shah and Chancy Shah all took their pledges to become citizens in front of the community at Sunday's ceremony.
Nyngan's Australia Day ambassador Olympian Debbie Watson OAM, who made her mark in water polo addressed the crowd.
The Australia Day awards were then presented to a number hard working and skilled members of the community.
Wendy Robb has been named the Bogan Shire's Australian Citizen of the Year for her contribution to the shire.
Ms Robb is a dedicated Nyngan resident who has a passion for all things Nyngan and spends countless hours volunteering in many organisations.
Organisations Ms Robb is involved in includes the Nyngan Jockey Club, Pony Club, Western Studio of Performing Arts, the preschool, St Josephs P & F, Nyngan High School, she is secretary of the Hermidale Gymkhana, treasurer of Blue Sky Ball, secretary of the Nyngan Touch Association.
"Wendy is an amazing person and a real quiet achiever, she gets things done and small communities cannot do without people like her," her citation read.
"Nyngan is blessed to have such an active community minded person and for that she is a perfect candidate for this award."
Sportsperson of the Year was awarded to Gary White, while Junior Sportsperson of the Year went to Gemma Boland.
Sports Team of the Year went to the Nyngan Tigers Under 12 league tag team and the Nyngan Pony Club Zone 4 Jamboree was named Community Event of the Year.
