Bogan Carp Muster committee president Rob Avard said the decision was made due to the current conditions of the Bogan River.
“It’s due to the ill health of the waterways and the current situation of the recreation weir that the committee have agreed to postpone the annual event until further notice,” Mr Avard said.
The lower weir or recreational weir relies on the natural flows of the Bogan to maintain its water level, according to Bogan Shire General Manager Derek Francis.
Water NSW has in the past supplied a special allocation of environmental water, however Mr Francis said the council have been advised that there is currently none available.
“The current water level is very low and the concerns are for the safety of the members of the public,” Mr Avard said.
“We might be able to have it sooner rather than later if environmental flow does come down the waterway,” he said.
Mr Francis said both weir pools have environmental as well as broader social amenity value, and that regular flows of water are necessary to maintain a healthy system in the pools.
Mr Avard said if a new muster date is not set, the committee will look at hosting a family fun day at Rotary Park or an entertainment night at the RSL.
He said the committee will also plan to host a clean up our river day on Saturday, February 16, from 8am until 12pm with a barbecue lunch to follow.
“We are definitely going to hold a clean up our river day, this is the perfect opportunity to do this,” Mr Avard said.

“There’s so much rubbish in and around our waterways while the river is so low this is a great opportunity to get in and clean it up.”
Mr Avard said the clean up will take place along the rivers edge at the bottom and top weir.
“With the help of the Bogan Shire Council rubbish will be placed in designated areas and picked up on the Monday.”
Mr Avard said the Carp Muster’s major raffle valued up to $5000 will continue until June 20.
The prize is currently on display at Foodworks in Nyngan and tickets are available from Foodworks, Nyngan Toyota or any committee member.
